We need to consider policies when deciding who to vote for rather than personal imagery, as they significantly impact our lives. As Greenberg and Page point out, “the focus on personal imagery may distract attention from substantive policy debates. If candidates who favor unpopular policies are elected on the basis of attractive personal images, democratic control of policymaking is weakened” (2019, p 281).
Public health policies are essential for promoting and protecting public health and well-being. One of the public health policies is the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), which has a specific goal to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees. OSHA requires a mandatory consistent framework for worker protection, including the obligatory creation and enforcement of safety standards, as well as regular inspections, to reduce work-related injuries and illnesses. According to Arbury et al., also, workplace violence varies from verbal abuse to physical assault, and healthcare workers are at higher risk for violence from patients and co-workers (2022). Therefore, these public health policies are vital for individuals and society because they play a crucial role in implementing necessary safety measures and training programs in industries across the states, which help to develop tailored safety protocols for their unique environmental systems. This legislation not only helps prevent work-related injuries and illnesses but can also significantly reduce healthcare costs, ultimately improving the quality of life for workers. Public health policies, such as those established by OSHA, are beneficial for both individuals and society.
