I agree with you Peggy, that helping families identify their strengths will help them function better. While addressing the dysfunctional patterns it is also important to point out what the family is doing right. Giving them positive reinforcement along with assigning tasks to help with dysfunctional patterns will help the family more than just pointing out the negative. The family structural theory will help with this by identifying those positive strengths that the family encompasses. It is our roles to also stay positive in implementing new ideas for the family. It is our role as a healer to help individuals balance various parts of their lives (Edelman, Kudzma, Mandle, 2014). By doing so, we are helping the family succeed.
